I have a bad habit. I love reading personal ads of all kinds. I've never created or answered one, but I do admire people who are brave enough to put themselves out there.
I must admit that the "Casual Encounters" section of the personal ads often make me laugh. I don't think that was the poster's intention, but it happens. This one was posted on Toronto's Craigslist page earlier tonight:

I'm not trying to judge this gentleman - everyone has needs, and he clearly can fill a few of them - but I do wonder where he keeps his multi-tool and his mini-screwdriver set? Or his Blackberry or pager when he gets emergency calls?
Of course, this is not the most naughty of the ads out there. I'll leave you to your own devices to find those. Happy reading!
It finally stopped snowing here earlier this evening. We've probably gotten about a foot (30cm) of snow, but with the drifting it's hard to be sure. Sean came home at about midnight last night, which was probably the best decision - the roads weren't great, but they weren't at their worst yet. He said people were still driving too fast and passing him - some people are just stupid.
Here are some more pictures:
Of course, this was the day Sean went to Belleville to go see the Bulls (OHL hockey) play with a friend he hasn't seen in three years. He's playing his return travel plans by ear. I don't want him driving the 401 in shitty weather, but if it gets really bad, that means I may not see him till Monday. It's only a 2.5 hour trip, but no need for that stress if he's got places to stay down there (he can stay either at his mom's place or with our friends Jason and Amanda). The game just started so I won't be hearing from him for awhile, so no need to worry yet.
I'm hoping to stay inside for the rest of the night minus any pee breaks for the dog. We've been outside together a few times today and Leia is loving the snow. I wish our yard was completely fenced in - then I could let her out to rip for a bit and she'd get her fix. Right now, she's getting small doses of snowy fun with every trip outside to pee. Since we're so close to the road and our sidewalk gets a lot of traffic, I can't let her off her leash for more than a couple of minutes when no one is around. She's having fun though.
This is an article written by Toronto arborist about the tree canopy in Toronto. There are some really neat pictures here. If one of the commenters is right and they put the wrong location on one of the pictures, I think you can see my old apartment in the lower left-hand corner of the picture (the smaller tower).

I am using this post to publicly thank the guy who let me have the seat on the subway that he had his eye on earlier this evening. I really appreciated it since I had two big bags of groceries.
I'm glad he got a seat so quickly afterwards too - good begets good.
I will show my appreciation by trying to do the same thing for other people more often.
On my way to the subway after work, I ended up walking behind this cute young couple. Their arms were around each other. They were chatting animatedly. Lots of laughs. They were in love. How sweet.
I looked down and realized that I could see her thong and her bum through the back of her dress. Not panty lines - her black thong and her pasty white ass. She was wearing a lovely short black dress so at least she was coordinated. The dress looked like T-shirt type material so the back end was probably becoming worn through by sitting on it all day.
You would think that her man might have stood behind her at some point and noticed that her behind was accidentally flashing the world. Maybe her dress was see-through because it was sunny. I just know that I should not have seen that much of that woman's posterior in public, thong-covered or not.
This morning as I was walking into the subway, I saw a cute guy about my age (probably a little younger). Normally, I would just take a quick look and move on with my day. However, when I took a quick peek at him, I saw that he was wearing an interesting T-shirt. I thought it was a band shirt (I like to see what band shirts people are wearing), but I couldn't read it. So when the moment was right, I turned around and looked again. Still couldn't read it. Of course now I'm curious, but don't want to seem all psycho, so I follow my usual routine - swipe my metropass, get my newspaper and go to the train.
However, by the time I came back from getting the paper, I saw the guy again. I got a good enough look at his shirt to realize that it wasn't a band shirt, but a Bubba Ho-Tep movie shirt. This made me smile because I knew Sean liked this movie when he watched it with our former roommate. (Besides, it has Bruce Campbell in it - how bad could it be?)
Now that my question was settled, I could get on with my day.
However, when I got on the train, Mr Bubba Ho-Tep T-Shirt also got on the train. Then he ended up sitting right beside me! When there were other empty seats in the train! This freaked me out. What if he asked me why I was staring at him earlier? (I was really trying not to, I thought I was being subtle.) What if he tried to start a conversation beyond that? I realized I was overthinking when he pulled out his book and began to read. That was when I began to calm down and read my newspaper, but I did make sure that my left hand with wedding ring was noticeable, just in case he thought I was trying to lead him on. I thought I was being subtle, but now I worry that I was as subtle as a Mack truck. Forgive me - I've been with the same guy for over eleven years, and I didn't have much success with boys before that! The idea of getting hit on frightens me, cuz I don't think I've ever really experienced it, except for one time on the bus by some creepy guy. (What is it with public transit anyway?)
So we never ended up speaking, and when we got to Yonge station, we went our separate ways. I admit that I breathed a sigh of relief. If he actually had spoken to me, I don't know what I would have said that didn't make me sound like an idiot. I've always wanted to be brave and tell someone randomly that I think they are cute. But I'm always afraid that they will take it the wrong way and ugliness will prevail.
At this point, I was kinda embarrassed - it wasn't about me, it was all coincidences. As I continued my trek to work, I began to wonder, "should I tell Sean?" We're one of those couples who aren't afraid to point out good looking people to each other, so that wasn't an issue. Fortunately, the answer came to me thanks to a conversation we had today that led to "guess what happened to me this morning?" I told Sean my pathetic story and I'm pretty sure I heard his eyes roll over the phone. He did advise me to watch the Missed Connections page on Craigslist. (Nothing yet - of course I looked! I do blame Sean though since he put the idea in my head)
However, the icing on the cake was when Sean called me downstairs to show me what was on TV earlier this evening. Bubba Ho-tep was playing on TV. This is one of those times that I think God has a sense of humour. We laughed about it, and I told him that I loved him the most. Then I asked him if he thought this would make a good blog post. This time I saw his eyes rolling, but he supported it with a hearty "Do what you want!"
I told him that the post would probably turn into a love letter for him. More eyerolling. So I'll just stick to a sentence:
I love Sean more than I could ever love some random cute boy I saw on the TTC wearing a cool T-shirt.
I saw this statue when I was downtown with my cousin today (hi Sara!). Being a huge Queen fan, I had to stop and take a picture. It seems like a really over-the-top decoration for the theatre that is hosting the musical "We Will Rock You", but Queen always was an over-the-top kind of band.
I'm intrigued by the musical, but at the same time, I think the story is ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the prices to see Queen with Paul Rodgers at Massey Hall last year. I wasn't paying $200ish a ticket to see someone who wasn't Freddie Mercury singing Queen's songs. I have nothing against Paul Rodgers, and I'm sure he's a great choice for the band, but the tickets were just way too expensive.
This picture shows the nice part about ice storms. Everything is pretty for a few minutes and you forget that you have to walk, drive or otherwise deal with it.
Sean was a hero when I told him I lost my mitten. He went around the block where I had walked the dog and found it for me. I've managed to keep these mittens for over ten years and they always come back whenever I lose them. Maybe I will start pinning them to my jacket or tying them to a string and keeping them in my jacket. Mittens seem to like to escape from pockets - they're squirmy.
This branch came down in the wind on Thursday night. The tree is just to the left of the picture. I took this picture from our bedroom on the second floor of the house. I think the branch is close to 15 feet tall, but I'm not really sure. We have lots of small branches scattered throughout the yard, but no downed power lines so we are lucky. Our neighbour had a wire that was dipping so low it looked like an ice-covered clothesline. I thought it looked really pretty, but didn't want to get too close in case it fell, so no picture of that.
At least with things thawing, the countdown to spring is now officially on!
